House Fire In North Providence

At Thirty One minutes after midnight on Sunday dispatcher Vernacio received a call from a town resident reporting smoke coming from a neighboring house in the area of 5 Vireo Street which runs from Woodward Road to Nemo Street, Subsequently the vocals opened up "attention Engine's 4,3,2 Ladder 1, Squad 1, Rescue 2 & Battalion 1 a still box". Engine 4 arrived first due and reported a "Code Red" with heavy smoke showing from a two story unoccupied wood frame dwelling and a aggressive interior attack was initiated with a heavy fire condition on the first floor possibly extending into floor two, Engine 1 & Rescue 1 responded on the fill in assignment. Crews on the fireground stretched three lines which made quick work of the fire in about twenty minutes leaving an extensive overhaul operation which lasted into the early morning hours. Providence Engine 7, Ladder 4 & Pawtucket Engine 5 responded mutual aid for coverage during the fire, The Providence Canteen along with numerous citywide members responded also. Two firefighters were evaluated and transported from their respective stations with minor injuries to area hospitals, The state fire marshals investigating the cause of the fire due to the residents being out of town at the time of the fire.

Vacant House Burns In Providence

At 19:10 on Sunday evening the Providence fire alarm office dispatched Engine's 8,3,11 Tower's 2&1 and Battalion 2 to the vicinity of 40 Arch Street which runs from Elmwood Avenue to Gilmore Street for a reported building fire. Battalion 2 reported heavy smoke from a distance as Rescue 1 arrived at 42 Arch Street and reported a heavily involved three story vacant wood frame, Engine 14 (safety) Ladder 6 (fast) Engine 7 / Air Supply & Rescue 4 responded on the working fire assignment. At 19:14 Battalion 2 arrived and transmitted a second alarm due to fire conditions and a potential exposure problem on side four, Engine's 10, 6 Ladder 5 & Division 1 responded on the second alarm as special hazards cleared a gas leak and took in the job. Incident command ordered a emergency evacuation of the building as heavy fire took hold of the upper floors and cockloft, Engine's 6 & 10 along with special called ladder 8 responded to Wilson Street to gain access to the rear of the fire building and setup for a exterior operation while fire alarm relocated Engine 2 & Ladder 7 to the Atwells Avenue firehouse. Firefighters remained defensive for about a half hour before the heavy fire was knocked back and interior crews could reenter for an extensive overhaul operation. Two firefighters were injured during the fire, the special signal canteen arrived to provide refreshment for the first responders. The fire is under investigation by the fire prevention office.

Providence L.O.D.D

It is with deepest regret that we announce the line of duty death (LODD) of Captain Frank Quetta, Ladder 2, Group C.

Frank, a loyal member of Local 799, was appointed to the Providence Fire Department in April 1979. Frank passed peacefully at approximately 1 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A department funeral with full honors is planned. Details to follow.

North Providence Fire Department Frequency

From 09:00-10:00 (8-15-08) Friday Morning The North Providence Fire Department Is Switching From 154.25 To The Old Police Channel 154.800. The Department Will Be Following The Police To A Digital System Shortly.

Providence Police Goes Digital

On Monday June 23rd Providence Police Went To There New Digital 800 System As Of 07:00, All Channels Are Encrypted & Cannot Be Heard.

Providence Fire Will Follow Shortly Into The 800 System, Unknown If They Will Be Encrypted At This Time, Should Be Operational By August 1st.
