In the Early morning hours of April third Fall River firefighters were dispatched to a Still Alarm at 56 Cherry Street. While companies were enroute fire alarm notified the responding chief of police units on scene confirming a fire. Car 2 arrived shortly after and issued a working fire on his arrival as heavy fire conditions on division 2 quickly extended upwards. A aggressive interior attack was engaged with reports of possible entrapment on floor 2, an additional engine and truck was requested. Heavy fire burned upwards from floor 2 into and thru the cockloft forcing interior companies to be withdrawn. Ladder 4 set up a large stream elevated master stream, as other crews utilized multiple handlines and a blitz gun the fire burned for nearly three hours running front to back in the cockloft and dropping down into unburned sections of floor 3 spreading the fire thru the building. The primary and secondary searches proved no entrapment, crews were on scene into the morning picking up and overhauling.
It is with deepest regret that we announce the line of duty death (LODD) of Captain Frank Quetta, Ladder 2, Group C.
