Providence firefighters were dispatched for numerous calls reporting a structure fire at 54 Reynolds Avenue. First due companies reported heavy overlapping fire venting from the second and third floors on side one and transmitted a Working Fire. Engine 10 initiated an aggressive interior attack, handlines were stretched in via the front stairwell and crews started the attack on a heavily involved second floor. Crews searched the building with unconfirmed reports of people trapped, Engine 8 stretched in via the rear stairs along with Engine 11 companies started the attack on floor three. A heavy fire extended into the loft and the Ladder 5 crew was evacuated from the roof, while members from tower 1 worked off the bucket. The heavy fire was knocked down in about twenty minutes, one firefighter was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries, the building is believed to have been vacant.
It is with deepest regret that we announce the line of duty death (LODD) of Captain Frank Quetta, Ladder 2, Group C.
