Early In The Morning of May 30, Boston fire alarm transmitted Box 1293 Atlantic & Northern Avenues for a reported building fire in the area of 408 Atlantic Avenue. On arrival a 2nd alarm was transmitted followed shortly afterwards by a third and fourth alarms, Heavy fire conditions took hold of two buildings occupied by the James Hook & Lobster Company. Multiple Elevated master streams, deck guns and handlines were put to work to contain the fire before it could extend to additional exposures in the vicinity. Eventually a seventh alarm was sounded and the dive team was deployed behind the burning structures, The rear of the original fire building partially collapsed into the water, The fire is still under investigation with no injuries reported.
It is with deepest regret that we announce the line of duty death (LODD) of Captain Frank Quetta, Ladder 2, Group C.
Frank, a loyal member of Local 799, was appointed to the Providence Fire Department in April 1979. Frank passed peacefully at approximately 1 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.
A department funeral with full honors is planned. Details to follow.
